At Mountfields Lodge Primary School we welcome, value and celebrate the cultural, linguistic and educational experiences that each of our pupils with English as an additional language brings to our school community.
We currently have approximately 17% of our pupils who speak English as an Additional Language (this may be pupils who DO NOT speak English as their First Language at home OR who DO speak English as their first language at home BUT DO HAVE another language spoken too) with a wide range of languages spoken, such as Chinese, Turkish, Polish, Arabic, Bengali, Malay, Korean, Romanian, Panjabi etc.…
With a long history of welcoming children that are new to English, our aim is to help each pupil become confident in speaking, listening, reading and writing English language, for them to feel safe, happy and able to fully participate in their school life enabling them to reach their full academic potential. We have recently starting using the Flash Academy spoken language online tool to help our new pupls, where language could be a barrier to learning and well-being, settle and be able to access as much of the curriculum as is possible.
