We would like you to make a list of all the interesting facts you learn. You can write them yourself or you can tell them to someone in your family who can write them down for you. You will probably need to watch the clip a few times to get lots of facts, and if you don’t understand, you can ask someone to explain it to you. Don’t worry about writing in sentences. Today you just need a list of facts. Maybe you could share your favourite fact on our class blog!

If you don’t have lots of books, there is a sheet here you can look at to sort the books. You could print it and cut them out, or label them, or just talk about it with someone in your family. EOW – RE

Did you know that it is a very important time in the Islamic calendar at the moment? Muslims all over the world are taking part. Watch this video link to find out more about Ramadan: https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/23286976

Then see if you can explain Ramadan to someone in your family. You could tell us what you have learned on our class work blog!

This year's Ramadan will be a bit different, as the coronavirus outbreak means that many people will not be able to visit friends and family, or their local mosque. This is because of worldwide lockdowns.

During the month of Ramadan, Muslims won't eat or drink between dawn and sunset. This is called fasting. Children, pregnant women, the elderly and those who are ill, or who are travelling, don't have to fast. Fasting is important during Ramadan as it allows Muslims to devote themselves to their faith and come closer to Allah, or God.

Ramadan is also a time for spiritual reflection, prayer, doing good deeds and spending time with family and friends. Normally, people will make a special effort to connect with their communities and reach out to people who need help.

What happens at the end of Ramadan?

There is a special festival to mark the end of Ramadan. This is called Eid al-Fitr - the Festival of the Breaking of the Fast. It begins when the first sight of the new moon is seen in the sky.

Muslims will not only celebrate the end of fasting, but will also thank Allah for the help and strength that they were given throughout the previous month.

Often children are given presents and new clothes.

The human body needs food to help it function properly. It needs food for energy, to keep warm, for growth and to repair itself. The Department for Education are uploading daily phonics lessons on YouTube at 10:30am. This goes through a recap of sounds and also looks at a sound daily. It is a half an hour interactive video that you can work through. The video explains and does everything so don’t stress parents if you are unfamiliar with phonics! Please look at the Year 1 section- not Reception. This is a great way of getting some phonics practice in! Here is the link of their page: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCP_FbjYUP_UtldV2K_-niWw
