Welcome to Jet Class!

Your class teacher is Mrs Locke and your teaching partners are Mrs Byham, Miss Brompton and Mrs Davis.

This is such an exciting year to be in – the first introduction to school life. We learn so much in just one year – how to listen beautifully, line up and stay in a line (you wouldn’t believe how tricky this is!) We learn how to part from our parents and carers happily, how to be independent, how to share and play nicely and happily with others, we gain confidence when talking in front of other and guess what? We also learn how to read, write and do the basics in maths. We do lots of creative art work and so much exploring and learning through play. We love to be outside and learn in lots of different ways. It truly is the Foundation for the rest of the school. Most importantly we have loads of fun too. When we are happy we learn.

As we progress through the weeks we will share with you what we have been learning and what we will be learning next. You are always welcome to pop in and have a chat with any of the staff if there is anything you are concerned about or just have a few questions. We use Tapestry to update parents every week. Parents get photos, notes and videos sent to their phones so they can see what we have all been up to.

Just a few reminders:

• Please please make sure all clothes, coats, shoes, wellies, PE kits are ALL NAMED.
• Please send your child with a named water bottle with fresh water in each day.
• We always need waterproofs and wellies in school as we are outside no matter what the weather.
• We have PE on Fridays so children need to come to school wearing their PE kit.
• We ask parents to listen to their child read their little wandle reading book each week. Children who read at home regularly themselves or are read to regularly at home make much more rapid progress.
• Phonics underpins so much of what we do. Please reinforce the sounds we have been learning at school when you are at home.
• Keep an eye on Tapestry – any reminders or information about what we will be learning next week will be on that.
• Please send us in photos and notes on Tapestry about what your child has been doing at school. We see your child’s education and being a 2 way process.
